Counselling and Psychotherapy in Banbury, Oxfordshire and Online

Qualifications & Professional Experience

My work as a psychotherapist has been shaped by many years of listening to people, studying human experience, and supporting others through times of difficulty and change. In addition to my professional training I bring experience in education, volunteering, and academic research, all of which continue to inform the way I work.

Psychotherapy Training

I am currently completing an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Warwick, where I am training as a relational, integrative psychotherapist. My training combines four years of postgraduate study with extensive supervised clinical practice, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches within an integrative framework.

My counselling qualifications include:

  • MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy (in progress), University of Warwick
  • CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

Professional Experience

Alongside my private practice, I have experience working with adults in both educational and online counselling settings.

For over seven years I have been a listening volunteer with Samaritans, offering emotional support to people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. I have also served as Deputy Director of my local Samaritans branch, supporting the running of the branch and the development and wellbeing of volunteers.

Alongside my private practice, I have worked with adults in both educational and online counselling settings. I have also worked for many years within secondary education as a school librarian, supporting the learning and wellbeing of young people.

Academic Background

Before training as a psychotherapist, I completed a PhD at the University of Warwick. My doctoral research focused on the history of healing, exploring how different understandings of illness, wellbeing and human suffering have been shaped by culture, belief and society. That interest in understanding people within their wider context continues to shape my work today.

My academic qualifications include:

  • PhD in Social History of Medicine
  • MA in History of Medicine
  • BA (Hons) in History & Politics

Professional Development

Alongside my formal training, I regularly undertake continuing professional development to deepen and broaden my practice. Areas of particular interest include neurodivergence, trauma-informed practice, relational psychotherapy, and the emotional impact of caring responsibilities.

My current postgraduate research explores the lived experiences of psychotherapists who are also parents of neurodivergent children. This reflects my wider interest in caring, identity, relationships, and the ways our personal experiences shape how we relate to ourselves and to others.

Professional Standards

I work in accordance with the ethical frameworks of the BACP and UKCP and am committed to providing a safe, ethical and reflective therapeutic practice.

My MSc training meets the competencies expected of a SCOPed Band C practitioner, reflecting advanced postgraduate training alongside extensive supervised clinical practice.

My practice includes:

  • Registered Member of the BACP (MBACP)
  • UKCP Trainee Member
  • Regular clinical supervision
  • Continuing professional development
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • GDPR-compliant record keeping and data protection
